Art Imagination

Parent volunteers from each classroom lead monthly art projects or present information about various art methods and artists. This art enhancement is done in the classroom with teacher input.

Care & Share

Care & Share was established by the Somerset PTSA to teach Somerset students about philanthropy to help them see perspectives other than their own. Through philanthropic actions taken by PTSA's Care & Share committee, families in need are identified and served both locally and globally. Care & Share representatives work in tandem with Somerset staff representatives. Specifically they work with the teachers who lead Somerset's Student Council to develop a timeline for giving throughout the school year.

Curriculum Enhancement

Work with school administration, teachers, and a committee of parent volunteers to coordinate student activities which supplement and enhance the standard curriculum. Activities may include field trips, classroom experiences and grade-level assemblies. Most of the planning and work will take place in the Fall.

The Festival of Cultures

The Festival of Culture is one of the best attended PTSA events. This event has become a Somerset tradition. We celebrate our diverse culture with kids’ performances, poster boards for cultural information and many cultural booths. This year, we are planning to have Festival of Culture in early February. We need many parent volunteers to participate in the event for it to be successful. Everyone is welcome. We hope to see you there!

Field Day

Field Day is a fun way to let loose at the end of the school year. In collaboration with the PE teacher, we organize an afternoon event full of games and athletic events for the entire school.

Fifth Grade Activities

Coordinate the Fifth Grade Promotion at the school on June and the annual Pool Party at the Rec Club after school is out.

Family Game Nights

We are looking for a co-chair and volunteers for Game Nights and someone who can take over next year. The chair is welcome to add more Game Nights with approval of VP Programs. In the past, Family Game Nights feature exciting and educational board and card games. We brought in local game stores and companies to give families the opportunity to play and test new games as well as have fun with favorites. Past game nights have featured Games & Gizmos, Math 'N' Stuff, and a Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic event. The Committee also coordinates procuring games and storage for rainy day recess and in-class enrichment that may also be used for some Family Game Nights.

Anyone who has completed the school district's background check can participate. The school will provide training (compulsory for all new volunteers) before you start your duty.

Staff Appreciations

Our efforts to celebrate our wonderful teachers and staff, with small events throughout the year, culminate in May with Staff Appreciation Week.

STEM Week

STEM Week is an annual event provided for by the Somerset Elementary PTSA. This program encourages all Somerset students to get excited about learning and actively participating in science, technology, engineering, and math. In the past, activities leading up to and during STEM Week include a Pacific Science Center Demonstration, Student Science Projects, In-Class Science Activities, and Egg-Drop Contest, and culminates in the Family Science Night Carnival.

Talent & Variety Show

Volunteers are needed on the day of show to help with flow and program.

Traffic and Safety

Work with school administrators and PTSA to assure our children are safe in and around our parking lots. Volunteer to help traffic flow at school drop off and pick up times.

Volunteer Coordinator

Match our Somerset volunteers to the right opportunities. Our community is rich in skills and talent with different time commitments. All of our committees and events could use additional help. Create time slots and advertise distinct tasks so everyone can find a way to participate.

Walk to School Day

International Walk to School Day is promoted by the City of Bellevue and the official website is http://www.walkbiketoschool.org/. Somerset first participated in October 2013 where about six volunteers and their children handed out PedBee key chains donated by the program to children at school crosswalks and in front of school who walked to school or walked to their bus. This was a lot of fun and children this year proudly wear their PedBee key chains on their backpacks.

Somerset Spirit-Wear

Help promoting, managing and distributing Somerset Spirit/Logo Wear.

Your children can wear them on Wednesday, School Spirit Day and other school functions.

The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme while increasing community awareness of the importance of the arts in education. Come help marketing the program and explore our students’ creativity.
